Boaz Sharon, professor at Boston University School of Music, is an internationally known pianist, recording artist and frequent judge at top international piano competitions. He is one of the most sought-after piano teachers in the US.
Born in Israel Boaz Sharon studied in Brussels with the legendary pianist Stefan Askenase and with Leonard Shure in the US. He was first prize winner and gold medalist at the Jaen International Piano Competition, Spain. For many years he was the artistic director of the Prague International Piano masterclasses and the Sichuan International Piano Festival in Chengdu, China. His recording on the Nonesuch records was named one of the 10 best recordings of the year by Newsweek Magazine.
In recent years, Boaz Sharon performed with the Brazil National Symphony in Brasília and performed with orchestra at the Teatro Nacional in Rio de Janeiro. He gave masterclasses and recitals at the Shenyang International Piano Festival, Beijing, Bangkok, Seoul, Korea, New York City, as well as masterclasses in Vienna and at the Liszt Academy in Budapest. He served as a jury member at the Franz Liszt International Competition in Budapest in 2022.
In 2024–25 he performed with the Brazil Air Force Symphony in Brasília, gave recitals and masterclasses at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and served as a jury member for the César Franck International Piano Competition in Brussels and the Mozart International Piano Competition in Bangkok.
Over the years he has given hundreds of piano recitals, including at the Shanghai Concert Hall, Beijing Concert Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou; the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art; Gasteig in Munich; the Rudolfinum in Prague; the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow; the Gnessin Institute in Moscow; Mozart Hall in Seoul; Erasmus House in Jakarta; the Juilliard School of Music; the Phillips Collection; and the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. He toured Russia from the Far East to Moscow and performed with the Irkutsk Philharmonic and the Ural State Orchestra in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
Sharon served for many years as Artistic Director of the Prague International Piano Masterclasses and was Co-Founder of the International Piano Certificate for Piano Artists in Brussels and Paris. Among the many institutions where he has given piano masterclasses are the Central Conservatory in Beijing, the China Conservatory, the Shanghai Conservatory, the Xinghai Conservatory in Guangzhou, the Gnessin Institute in Moscow, the Royal Swedish Conservatory in Stockholm, Seoul National University, and Korea National University of Arts in Seoul. His students have won top awards at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition and the Rubinstein International Piano Competition.
A frequent lecturer, Sharon has given lectures at Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford, Berkeley, Columbia, and Yale Universities, and has reviewed books for Yale University Press.
Boaz Sharon specializes in the performance, lectures, articles, and recordings of Claude Debussy, Darius Milhaud, and other French and Brazilian composers.
